Samburu

The dry north and its five special species.

The dry north

Hotter, redder and emptier than the south, with five species you will not see in the Mara — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, beisa oryx and the Somali ostrich.

Samburu pairs well with the Mara precisely because it looks nothing like it.

When should I come?

The best months are shown on every destination card. In broad terms the dry seasons — January to February and June to October — are easiest, but the green season has fewer people, lower rates and better light.

How long do I need here?

Three nights is the minimum worth doing. Two nights means one full day, and travel days on either side.

Can I combine it with somewhere else?

Almost always. Tell us your dates and we will propose the pairing that works for that time of year.
