Maasai Mara

Big cats, open plains, and the river crossing.

What the Mara is really like

The Mara is not one place. The national reserve is where the vehicles concentrate; the conservancies around it — Naboisho, Olare Motorogi, Mara North — hold the same wildlife with a fraction of the traffic and rules that keep it that way.

We send almost everyone to a conservancy. It costs a little more per night and is worth every shilling of it.

Safaris that go here

When should I come?

The best months are shown on every destination card. In broad terms the dry seasons — January to February and June to October — are easiest, but the green season has fewer people, lower rates and better light.

How long do I need here?

Three nights is the minimum worth doing. Two nights means one full day, and travel days on either side.

Can I combine it with somewhere else?

Almost always. Tell us your dates and we will propose the pairing that works for that time of year.
