Spice, Stone Town and the Indian Ocean
Zanzibar is the classic end to a Tanzanian safari. The east coast has the best beaches and the biggest tides; the north-west has calmer water and better swimming at any hour.
Stone Town deserves a night on its own before you head to the sand.
When should I come?
The best months are shown on every destination card. In broad terms the dry seasons — January to February and June to October — are easiest, but the green season has fewer people, lower rates and better light.
How long do I need here?
Three nights is the minimum worth doing. Two nights means one full day, and travel days on either side.
Can I combine it with somewhere else?
